The HELP Gala Long Luncheon at The French Cafe

“Thriving is not simply about personal success or achievement. It can also be about connection, finding meaning, and recognising the difference we can make in the lives of others.”

The theme of HELP’s inaugural Gala Long Luncheon was ‘What It Takes to Thrive’ – and through an insightful and deeply personal conversation at The French Café, survivors and authors Chand Sahrawat and Ali Mau explored the power of sharing their stories.

From the apprehension of speaking publicly about their experiences, to the impact on their families, finding the right words, and considering what their stories might mean for others, these two inspiring women reflected on how breaking the silence around sexual violence has helped them find deeper meaning and purpose in their lives.

The afternoon also marked the launch of Chand Sahrawat’s book, After Me Too – a powerful and practical exploration of trauma, recovery and what is possible beyond abuse.

Drawing on her own journey of understanding and healing from sexual violence, Chand shared how her experiences inspired her to study psychology and trauma, ultimately becoming a certified life coach dedicated to helping others navigate adversity, find purpose and realise their potential.

Beyond the conversation, the afternoon was a celebration of connection, community and generosity. Guests enjoyed the exceptional fine dining for which The French Café is renowned, formed meaningful connections and, together, raised more than $22,000 to support HELP’s critical services for survivors of sexual violence.

Our heartfelt thanks to Chand and Ali for their courage, openness and generosity in sharing their stories, to The French Café for hosting such a beautiful afternoon, and to every guest, donor and supporter who helped make our very first Gala Long Luncheon so special.

Because thriving isn’t just about what we overcome. It’s also about what we can make possible for others.
